We get so busy coding and support Translator, that we don't have time to send out a regular newsletter letting you know what's happening. So here it is, and we seek to have more consistent and shorter ones out every two weeks. (for review purposes) WHAT'S TRANSLATOR? ---------------------------------------- Translator is a computer program that can take most professional audio sampler formats and translate between them. You computer can thus read AND write to Akai, Roland, Emu, Ensoniq, Kurzweil, SampleCell, Yamaha, and more formats, so your sampler can read and play them just as they sounded in the source. You can translate one sound at a time, or many or all at once. Many options are made available to fit your needs. A popular use of Translator is to provide the new wave of software samplers with sounds. Another use is to provide new sounds for the older hardware samplers, and provide handy computer integration. Another use is back up of sounds, and also you can assemble CD's of sounds and burn them to CD-R. You can audition sounds directly from CD, disk, or file. You can even transfer sounds directly to the sampler via SMDI, through SCSI. Want to know more? Our web site is chock full of information. In fact, the whole manual is online, browsable in hypertext format. You can learn a lot about samplers and their history as well. HOW TO ORDER TRANSLATOR ----------------------- We sell Translator direct (www.chickensys.com/translator/order.html), but we also have a series of dealers throughout the world, one probably nearby you. Musicians Friend www.musiciansfriend.com Time + Space (serving the United Kingdom) www.timespace.com best service (serving Germany and West/Central Europe) www.bestservice.de Kid Nepro (serving lot's of people) www.kidnepro.com Northern Sounds (serving lot's of Giga people) www.northernsounds.com Translator Full Version intends to translate everything to everything, list is $149.95 (US dollars). We also sell special editions which limits the destination to a single sampler format (such as Giga, or HALion, or EXS, or Emu, or Akai). These are sold for $79.95. WHAT'S CURRENTLY HAPPENING WITH TRANSLATOR ------------------------------------------ Recent formats supported include Steinberg's HALion (support was release the day after HALion was released in May), the Roland XV-5080, Korg Triton, and Akai S-5000. The GigaStudio translations, although top of the line, continue to get better with the addition of user-requested functions, and time-tested algorithms. Version 2.5 just came out as a public beta. This is the result of a month and a half of under the hood work, resulting in a faster cleaner application. MAC VERSION ----------- We currently coding our Mac version of Translator. When? You'll see a release date announced soon. (I'm sure many of you are frustrated with the word "soon," but it's all we got currently.) NEW PROJECTS ------------ Currently, the upcoming formats to support, and the ones we are researching, are Kurzweil, Yamaha, Battery, Akai MPC, SampleCell, VSampler, SamplerChan, SampleTank, and Unity. This usually means destination formats, but it also means source formats in several cases. GOT ANY IDEAS? -------------- Do you have a burning need? Is your software enough for what you want to do? Got a good idea that no software does yet? Give us a call - 800-877-6377, or 320-235-9798, or email us at translatorideas@chickensys.com WINDOWS XP ---------- Being that Windows XP is soon coming out, full testing is concluding with Translator running on XP. SO far, so good - in fact current versions run just fine. However, special attention need to paid to ASPI, the low level system that enables Translator to access drives. See our new "All About ASPI" article at our web site - www.chickensys.com/translator/misc/aspi.html NAMM ---- Come see us at NAMM this year; it's going to be better than ever! We've got some great plans, and we are really looking forward to seeing everyone. SOFTWARE SAMPLERS ----------------- Check out the Software Sampler Roundup in the October issue of Electronic Musician; there's a little write-up about Translator. The article also shows you how hot the whole market is becoming. New software samplers include SamplerChan, and VSampler even has incorporated disk-streaming (a la GigaStudio and HALion). Surprisingly, HALion wasn't in the roundup - from what we heard it was because it didn't make the deadline. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ (To remove yourself from this list, please type UNSUBSCRIBE in the subject line and reply back.) | * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * | | Garth Hjelte and Jeff Godbloch | | Customer Service Representatives | | Chicken Systems, Inc. | | 714 5th Street SE | | Willmar, MN 56201 USA | | | | 800-8-PRO-EPS Toll Free Order Line (US Only) | | 320-235-9798 Tech Support, Sampler Questions | | International Line | | 360-838-7689 Fax | | Product Sales: sales@chickensys.com | | Product Support: support@chickensys.com | | Sampler Q+A: qa@chickensys.com | | Company Web Page: www.chickensys.com | | Translator Web Page: www.chickensys.com/translator | | * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * |
